63+ maybe 64. Multiple edge hits constrain this one a little. Beautiful!

what generation holder? didnt PCGS details chops for a lot of years?

The holder is generation 6.0S 2015 to 2020. It appears prior to 2003 PCGS detailed all chop marks. NGC still does detail all chop marks. This example does have a straight grade with chop mark noted on the label. I lean toward the way PCGS does handle grading the chop marks.

MS64. Images show blinding luster. I agree the rim hits could hold it back to MS63.

thanks for the info! I didnt realize they had been grading them for almost 20 years. I could have sworn I heard that news just a couple years ago. i like that they grade them. chops are part of what makes Trade dollars cool to me. tpgs treating the most interesting Trade dollars as problem coins never sat right with me. im in at ms-63. its got the pop and luster to be higher but as others have said its got a few too many nicks and dings to go really high.

I would also go MS-63 on this one. Not your typically chop marked Trade dollar!

 In grades of MS64 with chop marks there are only 18 coins for the entire Trade dollar series. Zero coins with chop marks graded MS65 and higher.

Quote: if a coin has been chopmarked, you would think that would prohibit it from being called "uncirculated". uncirculated and mint state are two different things. probably why we dont use that term. a mint state coin (MS) can be circulated so long as it doesn't show any signs of wear it would still grade on the MS scale
