This is the large 5 variety so possibly, there is too much gunk in the recesses of the date to tell. Maybe a soak in acetone and a careful probing with a soft rose thorn if you're comfortable doing so may dislodge enough to tell. There is a faint area between the upper and lower loop of the 3 that connects and a small triangular protrusion on the inside of the lower loop of the 3 that is on the 3 over 3 variety. I am also seeing two die cracks from the stars on the right of the bust extending to the denticles, I've seen that on the inverted 3 in later die states so also a hopeful indicator.

Thanks for replying! The coin appears to be LM-3 on PCGS coinfacts, which are all of the 3 over inverted 3 variety right?

The obverse Die Crack is diagnostic; no need to see anything else unless you wanted to check for a new "mule" variety

Opps of course, I didn't catch that, as my only photo I had was a really early die state, and the crack is barely obvious, though now I see it and it's on most other photos of 1836 inverted 3 Half Dimes I checked online. I sold my Cherrypicker's guide books since they went up in price like 8 times in value. Waiting for the new ones to come out to replenish my old ones I sold. The rest of any Half Dime reference books I own are in storage a mile away.

Thanks Oldgrouchyguy!
