Hello I have a 2001 D marked penny I am curious about. It seems to have some pitting almost as if it had "pin holes". Also it has obvious signs of cracking or splitting on the front and back of the coin. Any insight would be great thank you!

Most likely a plating issue and the early stages of zinc rot. Zinc core memorial cents are known for this.

Might also be a stray puncture from a foreign object.

need close up pics of this (and the other one on the back of the neck) to be sure what it is and what caused it.
