Been looking for a nice example of this one and finally found one at a reasonable price. It's stage D so a bit of an older die but still shows pretty nicely. 1909 S/horizontal S Lincoln Wheat cent - RPM-002, FS-1502

Your commitment to this aspect of the hobby (certainly financially) is remarkable.

Commitment, yes. Just like about everyone on this board I love to hunt for errors and varieties, but first I am a collector and am certainly willing to pay for them as well. And other than a few exceptions, I still own most of the coins I've posted here. Lately I've been doing a bit more selling off, as I am swimming in doubles, but for the most part I like to collect these things and, to some extent, study them.

I will say more stage C. For a older Die this coin it is impressive. This for Observe. The Reverse is IMHO end of the stage A and begin of the stage B. what could be say more for a such beautiful coin from 1909? Nothing. Maybe it is damage that the TPG's do not have the scale calibrated to different periods of time.

Thank you for all the kind words! This particular die is fairly common, and there are quite a number of high grade examples of 1909-S out there. But this one is also easy to see and widely known by dealers and collectors, so most of the high grade examples with the RPM are already slabbed as such or sold as such RAW. I was waiting for a nice one to come up at a lower price, already on the label so I didn't have to pay grading fees ($56), and it finally showed up.
For the record, I buy a lot of coins from this particular dealer, and every Christmas I tend to buy something fairly expensive for my collection and he gives me a great deal on it. The PCGS list price for this variety is $900, and he let me have this one for $650. Don't think I could ever get one for fewer dollars even if I picked one and got it graded, so it was a big win.

Somebody was very good this year indeed. And that seller is a great connection. With you coming back over and over, I'm sure she/he keeps an eye out all year long for something you'll like.
