Hello all.
CBRD here, from the "left arm-pit" of Houston - Channelview, Texas, USA
I'm new to coin collecting, and to participating in forums as well. So, if I ask a dumb question or make a mistake in the posting rules - forgive me.

I collect error coins. The coin that got me interested in collecting is a 1940 S Mercury dime with a bisecting die crack from 12:00 to 6:00 on the obverse and a doubled mint mark. It has near FSB on the reverse; the middle bands are the only ones without full separation, but - just barely.

There is so much I don't know and so many errors that it can be overwhelming at times to try to find answers to my questions.
It is my hope that this community will help me and guide me to find that one coin that will change my life.

Thank you all.

These photos shown is overly contrasted, the minor bisecting die crack is not uncommon, giving the high mintage figure.

I'm curious to what's going on at the obverse top legend between the letter B E R, it appear to be sunk in, or it can be strong contrast that given that appearance, better pictures is necessary to review further.

Cool break, I like them too. Must be early stages of the break, later during the minting process it would just get more major.

we're all learning here, some just more than others, ask away and don't take offense to what sometimes sounds short.

Keep on hunting and sharing!
