Hi All,

I have received a very good start of a Lincoln set from an American friend. He also sent me a used 7100 Dansco album (Lincoln 1908-2006).

I have been trying to complete several US sets but it is a very difficult task for me since I live in Egypt.
I want to try to add to this Lincoln set but I need to know;

1. Is it possible to be completed? (I am talking of adding all the missing coins whatever the grade and condition)

2. Is there any rare/scarce coins that will be impossible to find or at least difficult to be found?

Thanks

I too have a close to completed set of Lincoln Cents. Currently missing 7. It is possible but there are a couple of roadblocks:

Hardest
1909-S VDB - mintage was very low - prices start near $1000 USD

Hard
1909-S, 1914-D, 1931-S - these are running from $100-300 USD

Semi-Key Dates
1909-VDB, 1910-15 S-mint, 1922-D, 1924-D - these can run from $10-30 USD and up

I just was able to obtain a couple of the Semi-Keys on the Buy/Sell/Trade board here!

Good luck!
Ken

Thanks for the info Ken,
Seems that it is not literally impossible, but it is financially

I just yesterday compiled some books I started as a kid with some pennies my uncle gave me into a book from 1909 to 2008 and after a delivery from e-bay this week I will be missing only 5 coins. I didn't go with the newer proofs on this book though.Trying to find way to get last few. will always be one short because if I ever get a 1909s vdb it won't be going in this book anyway. Best part they are all roll finds even if the rolls were searched 35 years ago JC

I would say given that the US Mint has created 4 new Lincoln cents for circulation this year wheat cents probably are going to go up in price.

Another difficult coin for your set will be the 1922 plain.

Good luck. It sure is fun trying to complete the set though.

I think your biggest set back will also be that you do not live in the States, so access to different coins and grades can not be easy. If you are lucky, maybe the coin stores there will treat the Whaeat's like most foreign coins here and just over look them. My local store does nothing with them because they lack the knowledge and most people around here do not collect them, so when they come in, they are sold for almost nothing.

I'm about half done with the memorial set, I've filled most from 1940-2008, but I don't have more than 1/2 a dozen of the pre 1940. I started with a bag of wheaties my Mom had laying around that were mostly commons, a partial folder my wife got me to put them in which had some already, and I've been filling from circulation, which is easy to do (um, here, anyway).
I'd say you'll have no trouble filling post 1940, even overseas, but the pre-1940 cents are going to be more difficult.
Actually, pieces like 1909S VDB are fairly easy to come across on the net....just expensive.

I will try to take an advantage of that.
