Which ASE coin holds more value? the 2017-S taken from the LESPS and Graded PR70 First Strike by PCGS OR the 2017-S taken from the LESPS and Graded PR70 First day of issue by PCGS, but signed by John Mercanti

I think the one without milk spots will hold the value longest. As to whichever gets milk spots? I don't really know.
Either way your coins are wow, I don't think anyone can answer what's going to happen in a few years.

I accumulated a few dozen of these 2017-S proof ASEs several years ago in both PF-69 and PF-70 and have been disappointed in price performance over the last few years (there hasn't been any appreciation). As far as the label is concerned, I personally don't put any premium on first strike, signed, or any of the other TPG gimmicks. So to answer the OPs question, my opinion is neither one holds more value, but are valued equally.

I agree with Jimbucks many of these ASE hasn't perform well like many other Mint products, except a few. Slab and signed one's don't mean anything to me either. Its not like a famous person or President. I should also add that MS 70's brings better price than a lot of 69's.

Thanks Jim, You echoed my thoughts quite well, just wanted a second opinion. Some folks (like those on ebay) value the slab more than the coin. I'll be selling one off and personally I like the looks of the 'first strike' slab over the signed one...

If I had to choose it would be the First Day of Issue with the signature. For one, signatures can add value on their own over time, such as after they die or based on their accomplishments. The FDOI Label is ONLY given to coins submitted directly from the US Mint to PCGS thru the purchasing program that only Dealers can be a part of You cannot submit a coin Yourself and get the FDOI designation in any way - shape - form - method - fashion - manner or style. Coins with a "First Day Of Issue" or "Early Release" designation always demand a higher premium. In order to secure yourself a "First Day Of Issue", you must purchase your coin already graded as FDOI The PCGS First Strike program designates coins issued in the first 30* days of the Mint's release which this designation may add value to modern coins but some collectors dont care, Now in either case these are modern ASEs and as such they tend not to have much added value for things like the label currently, but over time that could change especially as the ASE seems actually to become more limited in its release recently. -David

Really depends on whether you collect coins or slabs, IMHO. John1

Ok, maybe, I asked the question wrong. For me, I know that the coins themselves are at equal value - I know that. What I should have asked (and asking now) is this: If you were an average ebay buyer: and you were buying the coin/slab combo which one would sell better?

My casual observations of "current" ebay auctions or BIN's, the Mercanti signed label is going to realize a higher premium.
