Poll Question
A debate I keep having with myself..... I've made it a point to get a BU roll (D mint) from my bank of each President when they come out. Opinions on whether this is a good idea or not ? Value now versus potential value in the future ? How many others are doing this ? I also keep up with an album and a folder and maintain a four year olds folder and my nephews folder. I also get a seperate Proof Set from the Mint every year to someday put this into a nice Proof album as well. But I'm not referring to all of this stuff........ ONLY THE BU ROLLS FROM THE BANK. IS THIS REALLY WORTHWHILE ?And I plan to abide by whatever the majority of the opinions are with this. I just can't decide.....and I have my misgivings. But note, there is no answer for " collect what you like". That doesn't do me any good ! I can't decide, so I want this poll to do it for me. ( with the rolls I have now down at the vault in the bank, it would be enough to pay for a "spa treatment" for my girlfriend for her 34th Birthday)..... ......so......I'm on the fence with this !

I never started collecting them and still have no interest! I am not saying its a bad idea but it would be better if these things circulated more. In 50 years if they are still printing the 1 dollar note these coins will still not be circulating. and making in my opinion them worth a little more than face. But I am not sure. I only have proofs and uncirculated coins from this set. I do collect the sacs though b/c I plan when the set is finished to do 25 books of this set with bu dollars

Yeah Davis..... Eliminating the paper dollar (however small of a chance that is from happening anytime soon) was something that went into my original thoughts as well. Meaning that the circulation of these Pres. Dollars would dramatically increase......therefore making a BU roll something to have maybe/possibly, but......yeah.....that still doesn't seem like much of a reason in all honesty.
So far.......5 to 0 for not keeping the rolls.......hmmmm....

Don't collect them. Never even had one in my hand. Just another ploy by the mint to liberate dollars from collectors who will never spend them and just put them away.

I don't really collect them, although I will eventually get one or two high grade examples, but I do like getting them at my bank instead of bills and spending them.

I think that in 7 or so years when the series is over, there will be a small premium for having a complete BU roll for each president. Rolls are currently selling for a small premium (roughly 10% - 25%) over face for some of the presidents. I would think this would continue into the future. However, I would ONLY advocate hoarding if you are able to buy at face value from the bank or directly from the mint. This way, if these rolls don't appreciate you have about $1,000 in cash and have only lost out on a little interest over the years.

Yes.....I'm ONLY talking about BU Rolls from the bank each time a new one comes out for "face value".......certainly not the U.S. Mint rolls.......( too much money for those !.... )

Don't know what's going on with " The.....blank".....for some reason it cut that sentence off !...... Two people voted for it and I don't remember what it said !..... Those who voted for that one......let me know and I'll re-type that in there !

If you had both P&D i'd say keep going but since you only have D I voted for you to quit. I think it would be worthwhile if you had both mints, but it isn't really going to net you much in the near future.
I collect them, have every BU/Satin/proof available and plan to keep going since its a new set, why not. I would just stick with singles and sets and not rolls.

I voted for it because you had no "collect what you like" option! Seriously, until they withdraw the one dollar federal reserve note from circulation, I believe that "The completed Proof Sets will be the only thing potentially worthwhile with these" is the correct answer.

All good opinions so far........I have till Friday to decide what to do. Keep the voting coming ! Out of 20 votes......seems to be leaning heavily to get rid of these D rolls !

I voted for The because collect one or two MS coins for my type set was not an option.

I voted to save a roll from each President. That way, its only a hundred bucks a year at face value. Personally, I've been saving a P&D roll from each. I don't know if I'll continue with the whole series or not. That might depend on the mintage of each issue. Unless they start circulating, the Mint might start making them for collectors only, like the SAC's and the Kennedy's. I played catch up with the State Quarter rolls for the first four years, and a few of them are going up in value. Anyway, if for no other reason, 'If your going to collect something, collect money'. Isn't that what the 'big guy' on the 'Home Shopping Network' says? That's the only thing that makes sense to me on the show.

Eaglefoot, don't really know what to tell you on this but I'm doing the same thing. One roll from the bank for each president, only I'm on the east coast so they are all "P" mint coins. They might appreciate over time, or maybe not.

Well here is how I look at this for myself, if I do not get these I will want them in the future and then pay more for them than face value if nothing else I am saving money if something happens and I need the cast I will just take them to the bank.
But then I am a coin alcoholic and way out of control.
My wife says what the *^&^%&^% am I ever going to do with all these coins if you die. (I do have them all cataloged trying to mark them all with a catalog number somehow so she knows what is what but I may out live her but most likely not) My kids will say why the *&^&^% did dad ever get all these coins for!
