I'm just putting together 2 albums. To me it seems a bit excessive to get a roll per design. I mean, by the time the thing is over, think of how much you could have made by just buying other things like gold or silver? ...makes me a bit sad now that I'm looking at my 50 State Quarter rolls and thinking that back in 99 gold was just ~200-300/oz...

I initially had enthusiasm for the series but it has worn off. I think value wise they will be worth face for decades, except the proofs and maybe certified 69/70 coins at PCGS/NGC. I was initially saving a roll from each president, but I already stopped, because I can only get the D here for face value. Instead, I opened some fo the rolls, saved a couple for my sets and started spending them to do my part to get them into circulation. I also think these coins will suffer the same fate as the SACs that circulate they will got spotty, discolored, strange toning and darkening, etc. The only way, as suggested above, for these coins to be worth anything is for them to circulate heavily so that few BU coins would exist. But they've made so many that BU coins will be plentiful. Look at JFK half dollars- it is very very hard to put to together a BU set from circulation- almost impossible, but eventually doable if you go through 10s of thousands of coins. So this series circulated widely, yet hardly carries any value over face, except the silver, 70D, 87 P&D and some of the recent 2002-present, and the proofs. Despite how hard it is to put together a BU set, a BU set minus the proofs is worth maybe $100 or about 2x face value. I think they are making far more Presidential dollars than JFK halves, so I suspect the dollars will be face for many decades. Spend them, but keep a couple of the nicest ones for your set.

Quote: Yes.....I'm ONLY talking about BU Rolls from the bank each time a new one comes out for "face value".......certainly not the U.S. Mint rolls.......(too much money for those !.... And what do you do in a couple of years if the mintages keep dropping the way they have been and tey go back to striking them for collectors only like the 2002 - 2008 Sacs?

I voted "The" because it was an option ! As for me I am only collecting the proofs because I like the nice example of each coin. I think that so many are being hoarded that their increase in value will be small.

Then I would be forced to pay the extra money beyond face value and buy them directly from the Mint..... Or from someone on CCF...

Just to remind everyone though..... I'll have a Proof album (or Sets) in the future....complete. I'll have an album of D mint BU complete. And I'll have a folder of D mint BU complete. This will all happen regardless of whether or not I keep and continue with collecting the "D" mint BU rolls. And so that is my only question, really, that considering my entire plans with these.....is this worthwhile and/or necessary to continue saving and keeping these rolls ? I could use the money....but it's not imperative or anything at all. Already gave the girlfriend a pre-paid gift certificate for a spa treatment. Took the money out of savings......replacing that money with turning in my Presidential dollar Rolls would just be nice .....that's all...... If this is viewed overwhelmingly as a worthless/fruitless endeavor, then I have no problem turning them in and discontinuing this collecting method ASAP. But on the flip side......I have no problem keeping with it either....... THE POLLS SHALL POINT THE WAY.............

Well I do not think the rolls will be worth anything either I just like saving them just can't help myself.
But when the set is all out I will be rich but the bank will have a heart attack when I come in with them to get my money for our trip to Hawaii

........Oh believe ME !......that "savings plan" theory has crossed my mind on more than one occasion ! Yes, one would lose accrued interest on the "roll hoard" for the duration of the Presidential dollar Program.....but it could be looked at as money that you won't spend and be money that you'll actually save too ! ... And if you can get a small premium on each roll and/or for the lot of them in the end.... that might equal the small bank interest you'd have gotten on the actual money being put in your account anyway.

Okay.....this one was close......out of 38 votes......only by two votes, did it go for "continuing to save a D mint roll for each President".........next was "stop right now waste of time and money", I wonder if I wait longer if this would even up ? Or go the other way ?.......hmmmmmm......

Yeah, but if you look at answers 1 & 6 as being "pro", answers 2, 3, and 7 as "con", and 4 & 5 as "neutral", then it's 19 to 12 against
