Ok the weight checks out then. I'm inclined to think this is a legit error as described by @john. I recommend saving in a 2x2 until we get some more opinions on this one.

IMO, the reverse indicates the coin has seen some circulation, which limits its value. There's a big difference between an AU and a fresh and shiney MS specimen. I don't think it has the value in it, however to justify grading. Maybe if you wait for an applicable ANACS special, but then you'd still have ~$25+ shipping into a maybe $50ish coin. The hassle eats away at the few dollars of equity there might be left.

What it has going for it is that the date is legible despite the extent of the die cap effect. Often times, the date gets too obscured and it joins the pile of dateless examples. So that its dateable will help its value some.

I collect 82 dated coins and would be over the moon to stumble across a coin like this.
