Hi,

I have a question about this Trier 1661 4 Pfennig. The numista reference below cites the obverse legend as
MONE NO ARG E CONFLV (date en chiffre romain)
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces45258.html

However the attached example omits the first M of the date.

Would anyone know if this is a common variation?

The NGC example also lacks the M (for 1663): https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...duid-1389979

So not unique, but more uncommon that common I would think. Hard to know if it was done "deliberately," when the die cutter reached the space for the year and "Oh d*rn! Eh, I'll skip the M, it's redundant ..." or if it was an oversight. I see the "PRVM" - last word on the obverse - has also been truncated both on your coin and the NGC coin.

Thanks - I forgot to check NGC but yes, likely it was thought redundant if space was an issue. Interesting that the same "practice" happened over multiple years.
