this is one of the nicer coins I own when taking the variety into account. I'm excited to read what you all think of it.

Knockout. I'll say VF-35.

The reverse being nicer than the obverse, I would still give it an XF-40. I like it.

Oh! very nice. S-238 R-4. The scarcest collectible 1802 variety.
I would grade her VF30 to VF35. Very nice surfaces and detail. I would think your example is very close to the top end of the CC ?

Beautiful coin with a clean planchet and great strike. I say VF35.

Gorgeous coin! Technically, this coin is probably a VF-35, but with the excellent eye appeal, I could see it going as high as XF-40.

XF45 for me the sharpness of the hair and ribbon are more defined than a 40 as well as the cheek, date and drape seem more defined. leaf detail, lettering and bow on the reverse have a little more definition than a 40 also.
I'm at XF45. it looks like some corrosion under LIBERTY but difficult to tell using these photos. the biggest mark is obviously the slash on the neck but I think it still grades straight.

i grade this one 35 net 25. its somewhere in the top 10 known for the variety. its exact spot depends on who you ask. Bland called it cc5, noyes called it cc8. baymer called it cc6. below is the eac sale lsiting and some of the falderal. I like the baymer fixed price list from 1989. that thing going on through liberty is a die clash. those bits are the dentils from the reverse die. this one could slab anywhere from vf details to xf45 in my opinion. i like that the envelopes go back far enough that people are attributing it using newcomb numbers. you dont see draped busts attributed that way very often these days.

Wonderful coin! I love that you not only know the provenance, but have the past owners' envelopes and notations too.

thanks! I'm a sucker for provenance. I think its a product of growing up around coins. ive been lucky to see and hold tons of nice and also rare coins. in many ways its the people more than the objects that stand out in my mind. a nice coin is nice but the humans are what brings it all to life.

I'm at VF-35, although I'm not sure if it would get a details grade for the digs on the neck and face. Very nice coin!
