Ok well, I have done my close up examination and there is no crown or star. The edge in between the words is in no way worn flat so I don't understand why there is no symbol. I will take a few close ups if possible in a bit of that area and see if maybe someone else's eyes can pick something out.
Here's my next question though, what is the difference between km 117.2 and km 116.2? The description of coin is exactly the same so what's is the difference between them?

I believe one is the french version and one is the dutch version. But I could be wrong!

Malissa,
I guess you don't want to do the data entry, for the coin software, for Belgium then, after this headache!

Haha I still wouldn't mind the data entry part of it. I find data entry relaxing actually. I just think I would be afraid of making mistakes.

We plan on having a buddy for every data entry volunteer to double check each others work, but that's for another thread.
Hopefully Bart will be along soon to give you a definite answer on the 2 varieties. (Maybe he would like to do the data entry for Belgium?)

Indeed: KM#116 is the French version (BELGIQUE-BELGIE), with BELGIQUE left of the 3 shields and BELGIE on the right. KM#117 is the Dutch version (BELGIE-BELGIQUE), with BELGIE left of the 3 shields and BELGIQUE on the right. Your coin is definitely KM#117, Dutch version.
@Quick Silver: if Belgian numismatics already gives a headache, you can imagine how Belgian politics paralyze the country...

Alright, now we are narrowing it down. So it is either KM#117.1 with a crown or KM117.2 with a star. And it is position B.
So, Crown or Star between the words around the edge?

Well I have really inspected this coin and I am STUMPED! I used the macro function on my camera at full zoom and then held a 10x loop over that for extra zoom and I see nothing. The only thing I noticed is that the letter B in the words Belgie and Belgique arount the edge are stamped differently from each other. I tried my best to get edge images from the right areas but its very hard to keep the camera steady at that type of zoom. All photos are taken of the area between the last E in belgie and the B in belgique I cant even guess what the magnification level is combined but my biggest surprise? An invisible perfect number 3 that didn't show up till I zoomed the pictures in on my computer. I wish I could know what I am looking for. What size is the crown or star? Is there anywhere to get a comparison photo?

I take it nothing around the other side either? Between the E in Belgique and the B of Belgie?

not a thing. I included pics of the side I did because there is a little ding there in the exact middle that I thought might have been something. Other side is perfectly clear of any marks or any damage to the ridges.
