Emptying my change drawer tonight because it was getting full, about 5-7 years worth and found this very odd looking coin. For sure the strangest looking coin I've found in all my years. The bumps are only in the front and the reverse is slightly collapsed in above ONE CENT. Likely heat exposure - made some crazy colors:

Can't imagine how this one caught your eye. LOL

Is there any break in the edge of the coin that might have allowed the zinc to dissolve, leave the copper plating intact, and create this "wavering" effect?

We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

With the low melting point of zinc, the innards upon heating may have turned to "jelly" beneath the copper plating.

Heat damage would be my guess as well.

No there is NO BREAK in the plating. Part of the reason I didn't toss it in the bin right away. I was impressed the plating could bubble to that degree and not break. Look at the height of those bubbles!

I love unusually damaged coins like these! Heat damage (as others have suggested) seems plausible. I'd keep this one as a novelty!
