Came across this beauty yesterday, and figure it's from a restaurant chain or some thing. I've gotten conflicting info in my searches. Some say it's sterling, some say it's fine silver. Looks like there are 2 different sizes, this one being the smaller. Weight is 31.68 grams, diameter is 39.01 mm. Any info would be appreciated. How was it sold, etc.....anything.

The 20 Q crew will be glad I didn't spring this one on them. I couldn't, not enough info, or I would have.

Wrong date how? Is that the silversmiths mark left of "Founded"?

There are probably not many of these around.
I see 1958-1991 as the dates of operation and was around in Florida. I can't seem to find this on Numista, but have seen several examples on worthpoint, ebay, etc. One looks like copper but I see yours is silver. I assume there are multiple dates when this medal was struck since I see at least two dates, your 1973, and then 1974 elsewhere.

As to 20Qs, ... I too have several what-is-it's that I don't have enough info to be used there...

I saw that small mark left of 1957 and also believe it is a silversmith marking. Makes me wonder if there is another rim mark somewhere on the rim itself.

Here is the description from tokencatalog:

Quote:
Seller writes that is from Clearwater, Fla., and 1 troy oz 999 fine silver.

It also describes the edge as being reeded.

Thanks Spence. I see you moved it too. I just didn't know where to start it, and knew you guys would straighten it out. .

Confirmed, the edge is reeded only. No mark.

It's a proof too. How rare can this be? I see them being a gift shop buy. Probably pretty cheap in 1973.

Just as an aside, the owners had another place in Urbana, Maryland.
It was called The Peter Pan Inn.
Besides being a restaurant, it was also a place you could bet on the horses off-track.

I want to do a bit of checking to see if I can come up with the owner's name.

I found the name of the owner and it was the same for both places.
But it wasn't who I thought it might be.
When the Maryland place was sold it reopened as "The Cracked Claw at The Peter Pan Inn".
The original place was well known and respected.
I guess that's why the Peter Pan Inn part was retained.

None of this has to do directly with the token you found but is at least a bit of the history of the place.

Search "the peter pan inn at urbana maryland" for more info.

What would be cool, is if a member actually went there and can give some 1st person feedback.

@loo, sounds like you need to finish drinking your Timmy's and make a trip to the southern US this winter!
