Both orientations occur.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

That's the one I have found in my more than fifty supermarket toonie change,the other toonies had the security edge were all with the upward letter face to the reverse side.

The edge lettering is done at the end of the process, it"s luck of draw heads or tail when applied
