I've never seen an error like this raised and struck metal on the center of the obverse field. There are abrasion marks that traverse the raised break from the field on the obverse. I would have said PMD but for the eye. You can see the eye on the break and on the field. That would mean the break was there before the coin was struck. Or the die was failing as the coin was struck.

Raised ridges traversing the field from SW to NE on the reverse.

Curious coin....... Something I've never seen.

Any thoughts?

That is strange shape for a die break. What is the weight?

does not look like Feeder Finger Damage as it should not be on top on the devices. The devices are recessed in the die and will not be touched by the feeder fingers.

Maybe catastrophic die damage? Retained interior die break? Just grasping at straws now. LOL

The marks are not all at the same angle either. Notice the lines at the left end of the memorial as compared to the ones in the center

One thing I would like to know, are the lines raised or are they grooves (incuse) It is hard to tell with the way the lighting is set up.

There should be some strike weakness on reverse opposite the large feature on the bust but I don't see any. That makes me lean towards PMD.

If by weakness you mean the strike is shallower on the reverse. That is the case, the strike is somewhat shallower at the base of the memorial steps, opposite the raised feature on the obverse.

This coin appears to have been altered or damaged outside the Mint. The area surrounding the raised imperfection is flattened. The reverse design is also flattened and picked up a set of parallel lines from the surface it was compressed against. Unlike feeder scrapes, which they superficially resemble, these lines continue over the raised design.

Thank you Mike. Very much appreciated. I'd never seen PMD like this before. Hopefully, this helps others understand what is, and what is not, an legitimate error.
