New on this branch of collecting. Passing across a few 1927 Gaulden's, I find this one who seem the T in Liberty has the sheriff split. A Doubling? And also I find that the Designer is really re-punch or doubling.

I have not material to look for those coins varieties.

Any suggestions please, Thanks, Silvio

@ Oldgrouchyguy: This was my first think, but after looking close to hole coin, the engraver mark is major, then we have just the digit 2 and the letter T in liberty who has the split sheriff.

I am not in the production of the gold coins for that period to can analyze the strikes. But is strange MD just this? on a very relative soft metal? I do not know for this one. Do in that time the engraver mark was add manually? or it is an hub doubling?

The T must be a Hub Doubling, I find others with same split.

I was and review the Stanton explanation of the Struck Doubling for the period and I can tell yes it is Struck Doubling or MD as you name 'it. The T in Liberty it is an Hub Doubling which it is very common for the period.

Thank you very much, I have to study more the period of the minting.
