Hi Sannys, and to the Forum! Undoubtedly this is a " Magician's coin" where someone affixed the obverses of two coins together. If you own it, could you send a picture of the edge?

@sann, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree that you have a Magician's coin there and it would be nice to see the edge. These older versions typically show the seam there, whereas modern ones more typically have the seam along one of the rims.

Sannys, you seem to have a very unusual "coin" there. A vintage (contemporary) 1848 Large Cent Magician's coin would definitely be an interesting item! Many people would rather have it than two circulated coins.

Much sharper pics needed of the edge and closeups on BOTH sides of where the design meets the rim. It is clearly a fantasy coin - we just need to figure out how it was created.

There does appear to be a line of separation in the middle of the edge that appears to be contemporary to the coin. This would be a Magicians coin though the coolest one I have ever seen. A special find !

Only one of those images is focused enough to see anything, but there's clearly a seam there, as well as what appears to be an effort to disguise it. Not sure if it's really a Magician's coin or someone's effort to create a "rare mint error." You might note that the date position is different on both sides, so it came from two different obverse dies.

Seems like a faked 2-headed coin rather than a Magician's coin. If it is a Magician's coin you should be able to separate the two halves. Try putting it in a clean plastic jar and shaking vigorously. If it separates please share photos of the interior faces. If nothing else, you can always win a coin toss with it!

We can see the union of the two parts. Could be very easy separated but the coin as is will be finish. Need 125 to 160 deg and borax on the side.

its more desirable together than it is separated. dont try to separate it.

I have an 1807, but thr edge on mine is nowhere near as well done as yours. It is obvious and almost looks like a "sandwich cookie"
