Another coin out of the collection I'm considering buying. This was in a coin flip with a Bowers and Merena information card that I'll post in a few days. Weight is 1.3 grams & diameter seemed right. Unfortunately I didn't measure it. I'm hoping there are some experts that can help with grade & authenticity. I'd also be interested in value opinions. I've got a greysheet from last year and have looked on numismedia but I'm not seeing a lot of recent sales data.

LM-1. small 8. its listed as an r-6.
i would suggest that if you want to buy a coin and lack the expertise to authenticate it the best course of action is to enlist the help of a professional. if you were buying a used car you would take it to a mechanic. if you were buying a house it would be prudent to have a building inspector take a look at it. this is the same.

I appreciate the confirmation of variety. I'm not a professional by any stretch of the imagination. I know enough to do preliminary research on coin series I'm not familiar with & am generally able to come up with a reasonable opinion. If the coin is expensive I like to get confirmation that my research is adequate. Someone that knows the series might see something I don't. I'm not aware of any true professionals in my area.

Genuine without question in my eyes. Very eye appealing example considering these come in cull quite often. A good buy at the right price, which I can't help you with. I can imagine an R-6 could carry a premium. Quote: Possible repair at K5 obverse/K1 reverse? That looks like lint and staining to me.

The owner of the collection I'm working with wanted me to evaluate each part of the collection at their location and buy small amounts as we go. I wanted to send this coin off to be slabbed and pay based on that. The seller wasn't comfortable with it leaving their location without payment. We were able to agree on a price with the understanding that I'd get it slabbed and we would renegotiate.
Once I got it home I realized it had been bent & mostly straightened. I then told the seller that it had been bent & they immediately asked if I needed to reduce the price. I was still comfortable at the price I paid but felt better that they were willing to renegotiate based on my opinion that the coin was bent.
I just got the results from ANACS today. They graded it VF-35, cleaned & bent. I'm still ok at the price I paid. I also want to be fair to the seller. There aren't a lot of comparable sales that I've found. Does anyone have a value opinion based on the pictures & the ANACS grade?

you arent going to find much data because there arent many comparable pieces that exist.
a vf details sold in august 2021 for 3,840. another vf details sold in September of 2020 for 1,560. the coin that sold for 1,560 also sold for 646 in october 2016. another sold for 998 in october 2014.
my guess? 2,000-4,000 at auction. its too obscure to be more precise.

Just in case you have not looked in the Auction Prices Realised registry maintained by PC. There are a total of 67 sales listed for the 1803 H10C, small 8. I'll post the link here if that is OK. If not you can look at ait yourself. https://www.PCGS.com/auctionprices/...ll-8-ms/4270

Following.
I'm interested in the fact that your first post was 1/14, and by 1/31 ANACS had already graded it. Kudos to them for rapid turnaround!

I appreciate the PCGS link. Even though I check there on a regular basis I didn't for this coin. I must have been having a senior moment I shipped to ANACS last week. I paid for the 5 day service but also wanted LM-1 variety attribution which can add 15 days. I don't have the coin back yet but they emailed the grades yesterday.

Hey, @trdhrdr007, I am (becoming) a specialist in the capped bust Half Dimes. But I'm interested in learning about the early Half Dimes too. I consulted with an expert I know, who shall remain nameless, and they say: "The 1803 small date Half Dime, LM-1, is a very scarce variety. The population is around 20, but more are probably out there. It is listed in The Red Book. That increases its value. The value on this one is probably in the $1,500 to $2,500 range because it's in a "bent" holder. All of the examples I have seen personally had one problem or another, but got straight grades anyway. It could be more in an auction if you have two or more people chasing it."
