Correct me if I'm wrong were the 3d and 6d new guinea coins uncirculated originally are a light brown or tan colour.

The coins are made of cupronickel alloy, the same as modern Australian coins. They "should" be pretty much the same colour as any other cupronickel coin of similar vintage.

They would not have been deliberately browned by the Mint.

Copper nickel coins can turn to a brown color, but that is almost always due to direct contact soil burial over a long period of time.

Was a little unsure because I have these two coins from
1944 New guinea threepence.
