The best and cheapest way of removing viruses from coins is to clean them with soap and water.

If so then that there devalues the coins, renders the coin as cleaned.

I would think that very few modern coins submitted to the TPGs have ever gone through a bank.

But if a coin shows signs of market-unacceptable cleaning, they'd disqualify it. Cleaning by banks or cleaning by private individuals, it doesn't matter, the processes and results are the same.

In Australia, they apparently were. I think some major stores were doing it, too; cleaning the coins before giving them back out in change.

And soap and water might be harmless to cupronickel alloy coins, but the aluminium-bronze used in the $1 and $2 is likely to discolour.

Yes,as already mentioned in Aust. at least during Covid.

Local Bank and some stores including our local TAB were putting them thru a Isopropyl Alcohol bath before returning to the cash draw.
