I found this odd looking 1994 Penny with a silver/zinc colored Lincoln bust. Its pretty cool looking actually, the pictures don't do it justice. Its super shiny but it looks lightly circulated. I can tell that the copper on Lincolns head was not scratched off or worn off because the detail is still clear. I tried to include as many pictures as I could. Did someone strip the copper off of Lincolns head or is this possibly some type of plating error? I also notice that some of the lettering in "in god we trust" and the "4" in the date appear to be significantly more raised. Thoughts on this?

Looks like the copper plating wore of the high areas.Might be a plating issue where it got too thin of a copper plating in that area, but because it looks shiny it probably got rubbed somehow.

Yes one possibility is that you are seeing the underlying zinc core beneath a too-thin copper plating. It doesn't happen much anymore, but a silvery tone on copper also can come from putting mercury on it.

When I was a kid back in the early '70s, a friend's father showed us how we could make our '43 LWCs nice and shiny again by rubbing them with mercury.

Agree with J1, just looks like wear. On these planchets even some wear will look silver. IMO

I can't help but wonder if this was done intentionally or accidentally. The copper removal is so precise around Lincolns head. Whatever it was that caused this, its really neat looking. It almost looks a shadow effect.
