I understand the Canadian Royal Mint stopped making pennies in 2013, but I would love to hunt some Canadian penny rolls. All the Canadian pennies I've been able to find have been from American coin rolls. I've found a King George V and a King George VI penny so far, and some Laureate Portraits (Young Head). I only keep/collect the copper pennies before 1997; the rest I give to my 6-year-old daughter, along with other coins from outside the US.

I've read stories that people are still able to get pennies from Canadian banks, albeit through some negotiating, since the banks are supposed to take them out of circulation and send them to the mint to be melted. I've also heard stories of people trying to deposit large amounts of pennies, with the bank refusing to take them. I would love to buy them from these penny hoarders! I live in the US, so the shipping might cost a pretty penny by itself, but would like to see if that's something that's even feasible. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Thank you, CarrsCoins. I saw that thread, too, after I posted mine. Do you know if this forum has a platform for members to do deals like this? Or would I need to use a platform like ebay?

You are not allowed to buy/sell/trade until you have enough posts. Please read the rules. Your best bet is ebay or maybe Facebook,Craigs List.Keep in mind though that a roll advertised as unsearched almost always has been searched.

Very hard to get penny rolls from banks here because bank employees really aren't supposed to sell them back to customers. I don't think they receive too many rolls anymore anyway. I recently dumped a box of 50 rolls at the bank. No one I knew wanted to take them even for face value. I still have a lot that I'm holding onto to make date sets. Are you looking for something in particular? Once you reach the minimum post count, you can post in that section of the forum what you are looking for.

I went to a few banks (different branches of the bank I had accounts at) and asked to leave my name if anyone brought in Voyager dollars or 50 cent pieces.
I got a call several times (no one at the bank wants to, or in most cases even knows how to, deal with these things).
I received 2 calls in the next month, dropped off $25 Tim's gift card when I picked up. No calls a month after that, but I'm sure if I went back in and asked again my name would've been back to a sticky note on the wall.
If you make an effort you will be rewarded (unless you are way out urban), the banks and their employees would be happy swap without having to handle the material or do the paperwork.
Make connections with the individuals, and DO NOT dump your leftovers back at ANY of the branches you pickup from - or you'll just be that guy wasting everyone's time. and you also won't get your old rolls back, regardless it's best to mark your returning rolls somehow so you know if you've already searched it before. If you do get a call, and realize they are giving you back your old rolls - take them anyways and use your dump bank (only if you want them to keep calling you). Could also put out an add on marketplace or craigslist - lots of people with jars of the things hanging around.

Good Luck, and share your finds with us here!

Again, it's going to take some effort, you're not going to walk into any random bank and order a box (the good old days are gone).
