This nickel is interesting. I am still learning the picture taking process. Props for the apple light ring suggestion.

This is a well traveled coin. But, there two areas that are dents in only the obverse. See circled area.

Is this a potential strike through of some kind?

thanks

Well-travelled is an apt description. I agree that those two dents are damage rather than a double strike through. One way to tell is that there are flat spots on the reverse directly opposite to these depressions.

when coins get that worn, evidence supporting a minting error is worn away too, and since PMD is more likely than an error, this one has to be chalked up to it

Good point nick10, that damage happened well after 1940.

have to ask is that a crack on the back right ? Why is the rim worn fat ,but not over the 9 ? The bottom of the coat looks like a hit if you look at the rim bows out slightly . I know no one likes rotated photos , but it might help here.
