I have never seen anything like this (well maybe a banana sticker on a $20). Unfortunately this poor guy has been heavily "George'd". If not for the vandalism would this be a good 'un? Thanks!

It's not an error. it's just someone who stamps the currency note and hoping someone who has the note, input the serial number on the website so he/she can track where the note has been.

I'm interested to find out how the eagle is UNDER the district number 12. The only thing I can come up with is that it was stamped from the reverse of the note and bled through, unless it was stamped over the 12 and the BEP's printing is just that strong.

There's no stamp on the reverse to bleed through.

The bep printing since its darker makes it look like its under. The note is worth $1, but to be honest, I would keep this one whoever "Where's George" it did a good job. I'm pretty certain the color USA symbol is from Where's George. If you want 100% confirmation, put it acetone for a few minutes, all the stamped on ink should come off, showing that this was after BEP stamp. Acetone won't remove the BEP ink but will remove the after market ink.

I ignored this image for weeks thinking that it was part of the vandalism as well. But the seal is 1/2 inch square with six colors (blue, yellow, brown, silver, red, green) and a lot of detail that the picture doesn't do justice. Maybe someone could do something like this with a laser printer, but I don't think it was a rubber stamp off ebay. I will try to get better shots with higher magnification to hopefully show one way or another. Thanks for the replies and welcomes to the board!

Welcome to CCF. Definitely post-BEP stampings. The stamp appears to be under the BEP printed district number (12) because it doesn't adhere as well to the printed ink as it does to the open field of paper. Asking about random stampings and general graffiti on notes is the number one question from new collectors.

Wheres George notes are NOT official such as put out by the BEP or the government as I and many others thought at first, they are instead being put out by any individual who goes to the web site and registers and enters their own bills, then marked up themselves after entering them and spending them so they can be notified when those bills are found next. Now I see there is a top users list which lists hit rates and so its possible a few users have gone to other levels simply to increase such hit rates over just a rubber stamp and have seen some elaborate ones apparently start to pop up so that is more likely the reason to increase its eye catching appeal so others look at the bill and then hopefully enter it on the website. https://www.wheresgeorge.com/state-...l.php?st=top Just keep in mind that they have no added value similar to enhanced coinage like plating, colorizing or also countermarked coins other than far later if the site goes down and there happen to be demand from collectors of such notes or chop marks which can add value from supply/demand. By keeping it however you would block the purpose of the release of the note into circulation by that person to track its progress and get hits, so its best to enter it and respend it as they intended. Others who didnt find it in circulation should not enter it such as when posted to a forum like this. Its not an official BEP error in any case.
