It's a blank planchet that has been through the upsetting mill. Worth a slight premium but not much.

There is a very limited circle of collectors who collect such "blanks". But such things don't cost very much.

that would be a type 2 as it has already been through the upsetting mill. You can see the proto rim on it. (basically it is an unstruck planchet.)
