How can you tell if a 1922D Lincoln is missing the mint mark?

I think in 1922 only Denver minted the Lincoln Cent. So if there is no D than it would be the missing mint_marq variety. I think that is the answer unless it is a trick question

I suspect you may be asking the difference between a "no D" and a "weak D"?
http://www.lincolncentresource.com/...rieties.html

Only the die 2 is "No D", Dies 1,3,4 can be either a "NO D" or a "Weak D" since these latter dies were most likely a combination of die wear and grease? filling of the mm area. Often on these, it is a "call" as to whether any sign of a weak MM exists. I have heard some say ,"under 5x", but I suspect it varies by the grader. Many 22 plains on ebay are "weak D" varieties. Maybe others can add to this.

Actually there has never been any solid proof that ANY of the 1922D dies 'never' had a mintmark. My personal belief is that all of them did at one time, but were filled in or worn off. The only thing that makes the 'die #2' valuable is that it has the cleanest features and a strong reverse, and has so far not been found with any trace of a mintmark...but that doesn't mean they don't exist and just haven't been recognized.
Rest in Peace
