I Have A 2000 P Sac That Looks Funny

It is "grainier" than every other circulated satin finish I've seen, evenly, all over. Bronzy but not brown. What is your opinion? Last pic is through my new el cheapo magnifier that is fun as heck. Thus it looks different than fresher die states. as many as 54% of the coins can be in this die state on the dies. Report this Post to the Staff

datadragon Pillar of the Community United States 1648 Posts	Posted 01/27/2023 10:26 pm Well, for a 2000-p or 2006-d In an attempt to prevent tarnishing, small numbers of Sacagawea dollars were immersed in a chemical bath that turned them a distinctive brown color that seems to match your coin. Essentially there are apparently 2,500 of the 2001-p but about 10 are also known on 2000-p. PCGS recognizes the 2001p and ANACS does, and places like great collections will both generally grade and then auction the coin and you can email them in advance before sending. However here we are just speculating that because these exist there is always a possibility of being one so worth to look into with people who have the knowledge to identify yes or no as I have never seen one of those yet in person, but normally otherwise its just some form of toning or chemical alteration. It would be cool if it were one of those, but every graded one I have seen is more brown and not all grainy like this one. Its circulated, but it doesn't have a great deal of wear, and it's not toning. Is Coop right that a worn die can produce this evenly applied effect? Is is acid? That is kinda what I was thinking, but if acid bath, why/how would that happen? Who would deliberately and carefully time an acid bath for a dollar coin?
