I too use my android for all my full coin images - I use the 'zoom' function when getting good pictures - it allows me to keep the phone further away from the coin as to not block the light. For coin of quarter size and smaller I zoom into 3X, for half dollar - I scale back to 2.5X, and for larger coins like the Ike's and silver dollars it is at 2X.
