Found this in circulation so I was wondering if it was and error or post mint damage. I'm new to this so any help would be greatly appreciated. Weight is 5.5g

*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

Gik, that quarter did not leave the mint looking like that.It probably spent some time in a parking lot or some such adverse environment.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Yes that is mechanical damage rather than a mint error.

Intentional post mint damage. Nothing from the mint would cause this.
