I came across an 03 nickel that is packaged and uncirculated. I noticed a small error on the other side with the word God. It also appears to be a scratch on the reverse over Monticello building. I'm not sure if these are PMD or mint error. I included pic of packaging
Thx

Just damage from taking a hit that pushed the metal on the G.
The Reverse is just a scratch.

Which company packaged up this 'uncirculated' nickel? Littleton Coins?
I see just hits and dings. Bag or bin marks? possibly

Hi Dearborn. Unfortunately, I do agree with you that the condition of these coins is pretty poor, considering they are labeled as uncirculated. not surprisingly if you're checking the label you are you correct that they're from Littleton coin company. I'm still not very experienced with coins, so I am guessing that this is not the best company?

Littleton has their own graders, and what the grade standards they sell means to them:
https://www.littletoncoin.com/LCC/h...tandards.pdf

So for example 'uncirculated' condition can be a MS-60 coin as stated, and more likely is sorted to be that compared to other places who dont have graders and so a uncirculated coin elsewhere may be a 60 but might instead be a 65 since its not sorted by graders. With littleton unless it states its being sold as a GEM Uncirculated 65 its not likely MS-65. Its just a big deal if you are used to generic terms like uncirculated perhaps meaning a possible gem quality coin. Uncirculated coins may not have been out in the wild getting wear but they can certainly get marks from being bagged and banged around together with other coins for example. Yes however that you are right a coin can still have errors or varieties as they likely dont check for them in all cases.

In a nutshell, Littleton sells over graded and overpriced coins.

Agreed the marks on your coin are bag hits and not errors.

Even mint sets are not good. Best to find the better coins in original rolls. At least you get these current rolls for face value. The older rolls will cost you a bit more. But the original rolls are nice to be the first person to look at them. (Virgin coins)
