Hello. I have come across this 1856 dime with a counterstamp that reads "J. B. B."

Any help on identifying the stamp would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Can you give us a closeup of the counterstamp?

I'd seen this piece or one like it, before. Then weighing the possibility of purchasing it, I made multiple attempts to attribute it; this, to no avail. This is a logo-style stamp that was likely applied to some small product. Find the product, and the stamp may be attributed. My guess as to what occupation might have utilized a stamp like this is a skilled craftsman, like a wath or instrument maker. These are avenues to consider exploring.

This is a puzzle, awaiting a solution. During my four-plus decades of studying counterstamps, I've found that some attributions have arrived in minutes while others have taken ten years or more. Then too, there are those that offer one or more possibilities while others prove seemingly impossible.
