This chopmark looks a little different that the usual Chinese chops you find on Spanish Colonial coins.

It looks somewhat like a human stick figure with horns.


Unknown-Chopmark-On-Mexico-2-Reales-1749.

Is anyone familiar with this chopmark (or maybe it is a countermark?).

There is an obvious problem with the host coin so any other issues are secondary.

It looks like a Mexico 2R that has been heavily trimmed. How much does it weigh? Maybe marked to signify underweight?

The adjustment marks on it are interesting....but in this condition there's no concern about it being overweight....

@thq: Yes, it has been heavily trimmed. The weight is 5.458 grams.

@jgenn: Did you mean the trimming when you said there was an obvious problem with the host coin? Or are you suggesting it is a fake?
