Greetings. Not sure what this is. Looks like it could be a severe case of lamination but I'm thrown off by the silver underneath as Wheat Backs are mostly copper as far as I know.

Too much going on to tell for sure what was on the coin/if a lamination was present or not. The alteration would turn the coin into a cull coin now.

@evan, first welcome to CCF. Second, it looks to me like an extra layer of metal was applied to this coin, such as aftermarket plating, but this is now largely peeled away from the original coin. I agree it is a cull now.

to the CCF Looks to me like it's been painted with chrome or silver paint. Soak it in acetone.
