Nice example of MD to keep for reference. Note the shelf-like steps. You can see how each device is narrower where the Machine Doubling occurs. Another big difference is that the mint mark is affected by MD too. If it were a doubled die you would not see that. Keep looking!
On the 1968-1972 cents Machine Doubling was common to find on these coins. Even doubled dies showed Machine Doubling. It is a striking issue, not a doubled die issue. Doubled dies are caused by a doubled die, not Machine Doubling.
