Could you tell me what is going on with the lettering on the reverse and why the obverse looks so weak. mm is barely visible. And everything else is kinda washed out.

Worn die seems to be an understatement. Good Lord. That's bad. I'm going to look up VLDS instead of asking. Trying to do some of my basics homework. Thank you

I agree with VLDS and I will add a week strike. VLDS and week strike come together on those new modern coins, normal. Just Mechanical Physics.

Why does these devices get weaker?
1. Keep in mind these devices are incuse on the coin. (below the fields) to make them incuse on the coin, these devices are raised above the other devices on the dies. Thus if the die was polished on that area, these devices will be reduced in size on the die, making them smaller on the incuse design and weaker on the coins struck with that die.
2. Note all the other devices on both sides of the coin. When these raised devices are polished on the die, the fields are reduced making these other devices weaker/smaller in height on the coin, taller and thinner on these affected devices. So there was an issue that a heavy die polishing was necessary. Possibly a die clash event happened to these dies. Thus the rescue done to keep using this die, was the strong polishing. Thus the strike is weakened and both the raised/incuse devices suffered. Thus why the strike was so weak on your coin.

CoopHome: Why is the strike on my coin so weak looking? die polishing can alter the devices on a die. sometimes it can be that the coin was not the correct weight? thus the devices will be struck weaker. Some die events can be seen on the coins struck, but not all of these are collectable. something common is not a plus for a coin. but underweight may be an issue that would added some premium to an error collector. But if the weight is normal, then it is just another coin in the sea of coins.
