Hello Folks,

I am assuming rainbow toning is probably a really subjective topic but curious your thoughts. Does it appear natural? Do you love or hate them? Thanks for the feedback!

Cheers!

I'll say AU-55 with environmental toning/staining.

@mey, you are right that toning is a divisive issue, but for sure some folks like their toners. Normally I think copper mostly just turns from red to brown, whereas silver is more likely to have the whole rainbow thing. I could be wrong though as I'm generally not one of the pro-toning folks.

Yeah, I am drawn to these unique ones but I can also see how it is impossible to know if it is natural which is kind of a bummer. Thanks to you both for the input!

The term "Rainbow Toning" should really only apply to uncirculated coins.

For fun, suggest giving the coin a long soak in 100% acetone. Might clear away most/some of the gunk that appears on the surfaces.

Coinfrog nailed it. IMHO,I do not like the look of this one,no eye appeal. Also,I would not call it rainbow toning. Check the bay for "rainbow toned cents"
