i dont know how to grade these as I'm not aware of the issues or what to look for. to me it looks like the hair at the top of the head is flat as well as cheek. based on what the coin looks like I have to assume its strike related. I dont know how to grade these between 65 and 67 but i'll go with MS66RD as I'm not seeing to many marks on either side.

My eyes keep getting drawn to the picture of the reverse. It is so well struck and photographed so well I feel like I could walk up the steps into the memorial. High 60's for sure.

I look for a full head of hair and full steps on these. Flatness of the temple/hair and black water spots are common to the issue.

67RD Would you consider this coin to have flatness in the hair and steps not as sharp as they could be?

Finding one without flatness in the hair is very difficult. The mint was making these at high speed with dies a little too far apart to extend life. Finding a 2005 or 2006 with full steps is also nearly impossible. To find both well struck on the same coin, very difficult.

Quote: Finding one without flatness in the hair is very difficult. Detail in the stairs seems a pretty straightforward marker to look for but when you say flatness in the hair and I look at this coin I am a bit lost. I see a loss of detail at the top and back of the head. Is that what you mean by flat? Would a newer die or better strike have more detail/less merged features?

After searching what seems like a million this is best strike I've found. Compare the portraits, on GP's you can see the die doesn't fill and it makes the hair/temple area flat.

Thank you for the comparison. I see what you are talking about with the roundness and full temple. Thank you for pointing that out as a marker for a fuller strike. I have to say that I have a personal preference for the detail I see in the hair on GP's coin. Could be the photo quality detailing the differences but is seems that there is more nuance and crispness. Not just in the hair but in the coat, shirt, neck and jaw.
Fuller strike with a later die state? I don't know. This is just the begging of me looking at Lincoln's in this much detail and your experience is light years past mine.
