Quote: It will be really interesting to see the final 2009 mintages for the bronze cents. All four types combined should come in well under the 484,000 of the 1909 S-VDB but who knows? I think you are way off on that estimate. With these special cents in them I would expect to see an increase in the number of proof and mint sets sold. With the clad and silver proof sets I would expect to see mintages of over 2.5 million of each of the copper proof cents and around 1.5 million of each of the satin finish copper cent designs. So you are talking 22 million total for the copper cents.

This might be correct but how are you figuring 22 million bronze cents? That's a lot of mint sets.

Well, the biggest attractiveness to this years Silver Proof, Proof, and Mint Sets is that there will be more coins in this years sets than ANY OTHER YEAR before. This fact, and the "Lincoln attention" popularity.....and there's certainly more collectors now than in 1909...and that Congress has realized the "money making potential" to the U.S. Mint and their products. All reasons for the potential or possibility for there to be much higher mintage numbers for the Sets, than even the previous year. The only other thing is "the economy".....maybe some who would have wanted to purchase sets will decide not to and whether or not Congress will lower mintage numbers for things in the near future or not because of the near total collapse of this little Country of ours financially. I'm just gonna buy em'......and close my eyes and pray !.....

Yeah....regardless of whether they mint more or less.....I'm gonna buy the same amount. That won't change. But they may mint more because of marketing and making money and maybe they feel the demand will be higer for 2009 Sets vs. 2008 simply because of how many coins will be in there... ....the Uncirculated Mint Set for example..... For the remainder of the year, I believe I'll still just get : Two Silver Proof Sets One Proof Set One Uncirc. Set Three "two roll Sets" of each Lincoln design each time a new design is out. Three Special Lincoln Sets One American Legacy Set Maybe a Louis Braille Silver Dollar One 2009 Silver Eagle (whenever they come out) So, yup.....whatever the mintage numbers are on anything.....these "future orders" won't change for me.

I the long run an unopened from the mint roll that is certified will be more valuable then one from a bank at face, I would believe.
As it is we all rely on the US Mint for our coins past and future thus more buying from them would be insure a strong collector/ investor market. Heck some day they may sell seconds!
