Does anyone know a good source for finding $500 or $1000 boxes or bags of Eisenhower dollars? I wouldn't mind getting a few boxes or bags to go through but I don't know where to get Ike's in bulk. Thanks! Edited by Khromtau 02/28/2023 10:10 pm

Ask your bank to order for you maybe? That's the only source I know, but I haven't tried it yet. Normally it would be better if you have good relationship with your bank teller/manager.

Tried that, I was told they couldn't order them, I might try again in a couple of months. I could also try a couple of other banks in the area, even though I don't have an account at any of them, and probably eat a fee of some sort. Thanks!

You cannot order them from the bank anymore.
You would have to buy them from a private seller, and it will have a premium.

Apparently, the US Government regards Eisenhower dollars at least partly as NCLT. Perhaps it maybe better to research what the US Government regards as the next less popular circulation denomination instead.

Very tough to find circ strike Ike dollars in large quantities these days. The major wholesalers pay over face for them so when/if you find any expect to pay a hefty premium to get them. Your best bet is to visit you local dealers and make a fair offer for any they may have in their face value/change bucket. You never know till you ask. Good luck!

The last time I asked my CU about Ikes (over a decade ago) it was a hard no. There are a few dealers at the coin show with 'Ike bins' to pick through, but I have never had luck finding anything worthwhile. I suppose it is good I prefer to acquire them on a per-Ike basis.

My local coin store will sell them for $1.10 and buys them for $1.05. I check the local banks for them. They will not order any, but they will trade them to me if they have Ikes. However, I am not the only one asking for them, so the pickings are slim. The banks like to get rid of the Ikes because they have to accumulate so many before the coin delivery service will haul them off. I have heard of different levels, $1000.00 and $2000.00 to trigger the service. I recently heard a rumor that a bank around 60 miles away from me has an accumulation of $1500.00 or so. I may check it out soon.

I have had luck having orders for Ikes filled at only one bank...I estimate a total of about 7,000 large dollars. I know the head teller at this particular bank. This bank recently changed to a different coin courier (aka "coin and currency vault"), and, sadly, I have only been successful getting 1 bag of 1,000 from them. Lucky for me there were 7 silver dollars (3 Morgans, 1 40% Ike, 2 ASEs, and 1 generic 0.999 round) in the 1,000 coin bag. This was my best bag as far as silver coins was concerned. I was able to fill an Eisenhower dollar Dansco with high grade coins during my "bag searches". Only one other time did I stumble into a large quantity of Ikes at a different bank. They had mistakenly ordered Ikes (1500 of them) and they were very excited to see me because I bought them all...No silvers in the 1500 coins, but I was happy. I just called my friend the head teller. She told me she will try to place an order for Ikes again this week. She tried last week, but no luck. It is nice she is willing to keep trying!

Just because you peddled this story in another thread doesn't make it true.
I've asked you to show proof over in that thread as well.

this information is on the Federal Reserve webpage...Ike Dollars CAN be ordered subject to availability. I believe the ordering source is the armored carrier, not your local branch bank. That means that your local teller needs to have a contact at the armored carrier who knows the process AND is willing to order Ike dollars. Link is below. https://frbservices.org/resources/f...ng/coin.htmlThe actual wording under ordering coins is: Notes *Please contact your local FedCash Services contact before ordering Eisenhower dollars because they are subject to availability.
