1947D RPM-001 Stage A
Picked this one at the same time as the 1949S DDO-001. The same seller and I noticed the "blip" over the top of the MM.

As a side note, there seem to be some interesting die gouges in the triangle between the 9, the date, and the lapel. (Hope the images are nice enough to see.)

Also, the edge of the lapel below the date seems uneven and is lacking the sharp edges we would expect to see on an EDS or even MDS coin (like something has damaged the die).

I wonder what happened to cause the gouges in the "Numismatic Triangle" on this die pair?
Enjoy.

EDIT- I like to add links to VV, DD, and/or CC for a variety and forgot.
So here is VV- http://varietyvista.com/02a%20LC%20...7DRPM001.htm

Nice acquisition!

The only thing I can think of, is maybe trying to clean up a clash and doing a bad job of it.

Which one The Turkey or the Black? The turkey are fun, I have near my country house. Are friendly.

PETE: I think we has to open a discussion here about the stages and the point to classify. We go by the all coin or just by the variety we find.?

That's an RPM I certainly don't see very often. Might be that it's on the rare side, or just that I am mostly hunting doubled dies and so don't look at that date very closely. But let's not now get started on the birds! Always sketchy to have a biologist around when you start calling vultures "buzzards" but that is a debate for a different forum

It would have to be the turkey buzzard since I have a friend that will call me a turkey from time to time and his daughter calls me an old buzzard.

Well If I understand the question correctly this one is Stage A at VV based on images and description at the site.
From VV:
" Stage A: Obverse is EDS .....Reverse is LDS"
" Stage B (unconfirmed) .....Reverse die changed - EDS (unconfirmed)"
"Stage C- Obv- Light die crack on forehead - LDS .....Reverse is MDS"

I included the image of UNUM to show that the reverse is a late die state, like the images for a "Stage A" coin.

CC- This example does show the concentric die lines under the point of the bust that CC shows for a MDS coin and CC images barely show the curve along the edge of the 9.

I was able to find multiple examples online. Some showed the die issues in the "triangle" and some did not. The die anomalies are not very deep or strong.

None of the VV images showed the die anomalies. The lack of the die anomalies might be the result of lighting or the anomalies might be the result of damage to the die (polishing, Damage, clash, etc., but I do not think the anomalies are the result of Die Deterioration.

Thanks for your interest and I hope I touched on what you were asking about.

EDIT- Here is an image of the obverse near the rim to show that the obverse is close to being EDS.

Yes VV show by the coins they had in the hands, and they emphasis on markers to decide what stage is. Me I will like to see a study on the evolution of the variety her self and not the markers of the rest of the coin. Sure could be an factor to see further but this is my opinion. How evolute the variety place and on different Dies (not necessary was only one Die)

This was for stages, for you coin if you certify (I suggest you this) will be the first to be certified.)

Thanks again Silviosi.

I did find this listing for the variety, of an ANACS-certified coin (MS64 Red). The images show the die anomaly fairly well.

(The seller is asking $59.49 for anyone curious.)
