I'm unsure if this is the right forum to post this question or if I'm even allowed to ask this, if not please let me know and I'll delete it! I was wondering if we are allowed to post what state we live in and meet with other collectors to get more knowledge and help going through personal collection. I completely understand how this could put individuals in positions that aren't good for them, and again I'm only asking cause I am unsure and would like to know! I'm just new to collecting still and would like to meet someone to give me advice and help me understand what I do and don't have. And just to have a friend to meet up with that gets my excitement and curiosity and doesn't look at me like I'm a moronic nerd who needs a more interesting hobby or something better to do with their spare time. Please let me know and again I'm only asking because if you don't ask you will never know, so please don't be rude and come at me with a novel telling me how it's inappropriate and yada yada yada. A simple "it isn't allowed" will suffice if that is the case. Thank you and good luck on your collecting!!

@nick, that is a good question to ask.

How about joining a local coin club? You could likely find out if this is an option in your area by asking about this at your local coin shop or regional coin show.

I wish every new member would put the State or Province in
which they live on their profile.
It would help sometimes in giving advise to questions such as yours.

I have relatives from Sutton, Gassaway and Buckhannon. My Mom was born and raised around Sutton. She started her coin collection in WV years and years ago!

If you get acquainted with a local dealer, you will learn quite a bit from them. You can then research what they say on your own. A coin club is definitely a good idea.

You can click on a persons profile to see where they are from. Some people do, others don't. It's allowed to give a general idea of where you are from but I wouldn't post my address on a public forum.

You can also make friends with the people on here. I email several people and have called/talk to others.

If you truly want to meet fellow collectors go to a coin show, there will be hundreds/thousands of people there.

After you've been in the hobby for a while you'll get to know more about what is valuable and what isn't.
