Hi,

I've never posted in a forum before, for anything, but came across an interesting 2002 quarter and can't find any info about similar finds. I figured a forum would be my best bet to get some more info on this quarter that I've found.

As mentioned, it's a 2002 Mississippi quarter that is in pretty rough condition. I've indicated with arrows the unusual characteristics. The quarter is a bit off-center, which may not be a huge deal but the "i" in "United" on the front of the quarter extends well below the rest of the letters. And on the back side of the quarter there is an unusual raised line on the leaf that the arrow points to.

I'm not very familiar with coin errors. Hoping you all can help me out with any information about my little find. Thanks!

Lots of damage here. It is hard to tell what that thing is in front of Washington. At first guess is a small arc-weld line

Altered coins post strike have no premium for them. A damaged coin will always be a cull coin going forward.

Thanks for the info! And yea, the images aren't too helpful...I had to keep cropping the photos to make them so they fit under the file size limit. Doing so effected the quality/clarity. But basically it's as if the "i" was stretched down/extended. There's no break in the metal or anything. It's just one solid, extra long "i" lol...

But again, thank you for your responses!

Appears to be from an electrical arc of some sort.
