Hi all, I sent this one off because decent shape and unusual surface. It looked Matte to me, but no matte finishes were done in 1937. I read of other years, 36 I think(?), where a few matte finishes were found. I was a bit surprised to have it come back as "altered surface"? ...I mean it has spots on it that made me think it wasn't altered...Im still getting the hang of image uploading...the original pics aren't bad but they are blown up so BIG. How do I fix that? I adjust size to just under 300 kb as required, but I don't use the app provided here. I don't plan on trying to have it regraded or anything, just interested in comments.... Thanks! Edited by CrackDie 03/14/2023 5:58 pm

I read "nose oil" can be "altered surface". That doesn't seem right. I could have run under warm water and patted dry, if that was it...but who knows?

Maybe it was cleaned? It's why they're saying altered surface, who knows. Itnlooksnrather clean for a 37.

Just off pictures makes it tough to tell, but surfaces definitely do not look original. To me, it either looks like an acid was at play, like E zest, or possibly whizzed. First set looks more whizzed to me, second image looks over dipped. As for a numerical grade, my take is AU58, details.

Thanks,
If it was cleaned it would have stated "cleaned"...if it was acid dipped, I doubt they'd give it "AU details"?

@CrackDie, forgive me if this is hijacking your thread but I was interested in how you got such large focused photos of this coin. I wish mine would come out like this.

The surfaces do look a little odd..
Did they charge you extra to put it in a details holder?

Hopefully you got back some coins that did better than this in your submission

The surface of the coin does look non-original, and the black dots probably hint at an unsuccessful drying after a dip.
