Starting to think this one might be kind of common as this is not the first I've found of this die. But it's a medium strong Class II + VI die and worth a look. The full coin image of the reverse should pretty easily show the extra thickness of the class VI end of things, while I am tossing in a close up of the upper right wheat which shows the separation lines at the tips more indicative of class II. 1943-S Lincoln Wheat cent doubled die - DDR-006

Nice coin! Don't think I've ever seen a steelie, high grade or otherwise, that doesn't look wiped. Must be the color and lighting.

Thanks! And makecents I can see parts of my desktop at this point, but still a lot to get to. plus another 20 coins on the microscope base to get to as well. As for 1943 coins looking "wiped" if you mean the streaks visible on the reverse near the center, those are "wheel marks". Die scratches and similar show up really strongly on the zinc-coated cents, and while die scratches aren't a problem wheel marks will "details" a coin if you try to grade it.

Excellent example and glad to see you were the one that ended up with this one.

Yes, the fine scratches at the reverse center. Wheel marks? Never heard the term. The steelies must be susceptible. Glad to hear it isn't PM because mine have the same issue.

The upper left show this DDR much better (to include the 'snowman' dot)
