NEW: Just like the original coin, your coin's reverse is marked by a small maple leaf placed next to the year "1947". Your coin's obverse also features the same effigy and outmoded legend as the original 1947 Maple Leaf coin.

The look of a 12 sided coin has a round shape but a shaped rim to mimic the look of the original 12 sided coin.

Mintage: 5,500 62.69g 99.99 pure silver with selective yellow gold plating $199.95 NO gst/hst

What are your thoughts peeps on this coin?

Why... Just Why?

The 1947ML series was released in the early part of 1948 because the RCM hadn't yet received the dies where KGVI had Emperor of India removed "ET IND: IMP" yet India had gained independence. This is arguably a 75th anniversary but why the nickel and not a new proof set "Penny to Dollar"... The RCM has not been that strict on "Last Penny" since 2012 or even nickel to dollar to allow reuse of current packaging.

I get that the RCM is a profit oriented enterprise but surely a Silver proof set for around $250 (same as the annual set) would generate similar margins to a $200 2oz silver coin and potentially have a greater appeal... I just don't understand the mint and what they choose to make and sell.

My biggest complaint is the high mintage of 5,500. I have never seen a 2-oz coin with such a high mintage.

My second complaint is the repetitive theme. For example, in 2015 alone, the beaver design was used twice: first, a 1-oz coin in the "Legacy of the Canadian Nickel" series; second, a 5-oz coin in the "Big Coin" series.

On the plus side, with gold plating, this 12-sided coin seems well made.

I will purchase this coin only if there is a huge discount, which one can reasonably expect in auctions or on Black Friday.

if the mintage were smaller, I too, would have purchased this coin but 5,500 is way too high for me even though it is a good looking coin.

They jumped the shark many years ago.

I know they keep using the older designs, but I'm a sucker for them being redone with the gilt finishes.

It will be a pass for me. I'm not a fan of re-issues in general, but especially when they are not the same format as the original. I accept it within the SD series as I have no other choice if I want to maintain a complete set (at least they're the same size!), but - with one exception - skip such issues from the Mint.

The exception?

- An Absolutely Gorgeous Chunk Of Ag

I have always liked Colville's classic 1967 SD design.

No one has mentioned this is a Master Club Club release. At 5500 mintage this is the highest ever mintage for a Master Club Coin. It is more than double the usual mintage of 2500.

I hope this mintage doubling policy does not apply to future MC releases. If will devalue the program as it will be no longer a "exclusive" product as its mintage will be on par with regular issues.

@MoneyPenney

Received my e-mail from the RCM at 10 am on Thursday for the new release "1947 Maple Leaf Mark 2 oz. Coin". I am a Platinum member.

Heading on the body of the e-mail has the ""Masters Club Loyalty Program" banner.

I promptly purchased the Coin......

Friday night I went back to the RCM website to check on the status of the Coin and it is no longer displaying on the Website.

Same thing today, Saturday morning, no where to be found.

Another glitch on the RCM website?

Can anyone else see the coin today?

@tender4848

you are absolutely correct. I cannot see the coin and I am diamond. also, when I received my advance notice from my rep, it never stated master club exclusive for this coin. I am now so confused.

The email said "Masters Club Low Cert.", which probably means low COA numbers for Masters Club members.

There is no mentioning of "Masters Club" or "Exclusive" on the product page - when it was still up.

There is no way the coin was sold out. However, RCM could have sold all low COA coins, so they took down the page temporarily.

I was curious as to why this coin was removed from the site, so I checked my transactions list.

The listing shows SOLD OUT.

Nice coin.

I am not interested in this coin but in response to this thread I went looking for it... As a Diamond member it is not visible in any status (available, awaiting stock, sold out).

I entered the part number from my email (received last Monday 3-20) and it translated to the correct name - "1947 Maple Leaf Mark" but it couldn't find a coin.

I have never seen this behaviour before... It sounds like it was prematurely released and clawed back. On the release email, there is an image of the obverse and it is KGVI and has a 2023 date... maybe this release was premature.

One thing that may be interesting is if we are moving to celebrate the 75th anniversary of things, maybe this year will see the renewed $ be a 1948 Voyageur... Probably the key date of the 36mm SD series... if not the key date definitely top three.

the "low numbered certificate" coins are sold out. the higher certificate numbers of the 5,500 mintage will probably be released with the april advance notice.
