1998 Quarter Uncirculated, Missing Material?

bzlnv8 New Member United States 30 Posts	Posted 03/26/2023 12:23 am I noticed the bottom of several letters on UNITED looks like missing material, would this be considered common? I don't see the same condition on other quarters. Thanks for your feedback. Report this Post to the Staff

It most likely is due to this quarter being struck from dies that were near retirement. At that point, small amounts of distortion and incomplete filling during the striking process are common. silviosi Pillar of the Community Canada 6244 Posts	Posted 03/26/2023 5:37 pm For one reason or other, the 1998 Quarters Die had the left leg N, the I and T bottom and the E the first 1/3 bottom left rounded instead to be strait. With the age of the Die start to be more and more drastic. Your Die is a aged Die Re-polish (signs are there) give this superb effect. I like your stage D I will say compared with my coins stage A, B and C. Keep is very nice and also very decent MS coin. Report this Post to the Staff

dsking Pillar of the Community United States 2365 Posts	Posted 03/26/2023 9:15 pm Grading is totally up to you and if you think you'll get it graded rather high than yes. In hand review is always best. I'm not so much into Modern Quarters so I'm not sure if it should be graded or not. There are others more knowledgeable with Quarters than I am and I'm sure will post their thoughts as well. I know this isn't what you are looking for but, it's the best I can do for you. So, my answer is no. It is a very nice coin though! The errors are really cool and I don't see any damage and nice eye appeal. If you do decide to send to a TPG, please let us know the results!
