There's no sign of trauma on the coin, so what caused the planchet crack along the edge from 7:00 O-Clock to 12:00?

Planchet is not actually split, just the outer copper plating. Caused by the stress when the metal is being deformed under high pressures in the striking chamber.

If you like it, then keep it, but otherwise just a spender.

I agree with @khr and would probably call it early stage Ridge Ring.

Well there will never be a premium for this striking event. (Split plating)
The Ridge Ring which isn't present on your coin has not happened yet. (Die event)
Cost more to put it into a 2X2 than its worth. The knowledge of what it is, is what is important. (Eye training)
