I purchased this 1906 Philippines Peso at an auction in 1984 for A$42. It weighs 27 G, but I am sure it may be a fake. The 1 looks like a curved serif. Could expert eyes and experience confirm?

Given the fact that they only minted 501, you only paid $42, and the 1 is wrong, I'd say fake.

Counterfeit.
A genuine one is silver and probably worth 5 figures
depending on the grade.

Almost forgot
to the CCF

Can you show a picture of the edge that is clear and in focus? Most of the Numismatic Forgeries have split tail reeds which is a dead give away.

Definite fake!
That said there are very dangerous Silver counterfeits
of this particular coin.
